Attention, lovebirds! If you’re planning to get married in Washington State, now is the time to act. Starting July 27, 2025, the cost of a marriage license will go up—so if you’re looking to save a little for the honeymoon or the florist, here’s what you need to know.
💸 What’s Changing?
As of July 27, 2025, Washington State will increase the cost of a marriage license to a standardized $88 fee statewide. Previously, fees ranged from $57 to $69 depending on your county. This update, passed during the 2025 legislative session, aims to modernize operations and provide better support for county clerks handling growing demand.
King and Snohomish Counties choose to increase their fees by $100 to offset associated administrative costs. That means a Snohomish County marriage license will increase from $70 to $170!
⏳ Why This Matters Now
If you’re planning to get married this summer or fall, you can apply now and avoid the higher cost. Marriage licenses in Washington are valid for 60 days, and there’s a 3-day waiting period before you can use them.
So even if your wedding is in late September, you still have time to apply before the increase hits!
